Open Settings (cmd-,) to change the desktop’s local preferences. Settings do not replace the Agent, Provider, MCP, or Skill configuration in the Config Center. A Search settings field at the top jumps straight to an option by name or keyword. Changed options show Undo changes.

General

Automatic updates only accept the same channel. RC builds see only -rc.*; Stable sees only stable versions. A channel never falls through to another.

Appearance

Controls theme mode (system / light / dark), window scale (75%–200%), interface font and code font size and weight, reduced motion, pause animation when inactive, and high contrast. The code font also affects code blocks, the editor, and the terminal. Theme uses three preview cards for system / light / dark, each drawing a miniature workbench in the resolved palette. Light theme and dark theme are independent dropdowns that show a color swatch and the theme name. Twenty themes ship: light includes Vibex Light, Catppuccin Latte, Gruvbox Light, Solarized Light, GitHub Light, Rosé Pine Dawn, Everforest Light, Ayu Light, One Light, and Kanagawa Lotus; dark includes Vibex Dark, Catppuccin Mocha, Gruvbox Dark, Tokyo Night, Nord, Rosé Pine, Everforest Dark, Ayu Dark, Dracula, and Kanagawa Wave. You can add a JSON theme that only overrides the colors you want in the runtime home’s themes folder; missing colors are resolved against the background the theme is used on. Workbench background places your own image behind the workbench: still, GIF, or animated WebP, with fill, fit, or stretch and an adjustable veil. In the light appearance the background is treated as glass; the startup loading page stays opaque. Images are imported like project icons and stored under the runtime home. Fonts are listed from those installed on the system, with a fallback when one is missing.

Connections

SSH and WSL remote runtimes are beta and off by default. Turn on Settings → Developer → SSH remote runtime to show this section. When enabled, you can:
  • Add SSH connection: discover hosts from your SSH config, probe the environment, and start provisioning.
  • Add WSL runtime: pick a local WSL2 distro.
  • Bootstrap SSH: generate a one-time command for a Linux host without sshd.
  • Watch provisioning progress, diagnostics, logs, and runtime compatibility.
  • Edit or remove a connection, or uninstall the remote runtime.

Session

Controls conversation content width (narrow / standard / full), timeline display (turn preview rail, Agent generation status, reasoning display, expand reasoning by default, command card rendering, file edit card rendering), and queue behavior:
  • Queue sending: automatic or manual.
  • Message send key: Enter or Cmd/Ctrl+Enter.
  • Auto-continue: let eligible turns advance on their own; stops when input is needed. On by default.
  • Agent notifications: Agent completed / Agent needs input / Agent failed. Disabled when the System notifications master switch is off.
  • Remembered runtime / Auto-continue defaults: clear remembered choices.
  • Agent configuration: open the Config Center’s Agents section.

Archived sessions

Archived sessions keep their full timeline and leave the sidebar. This page lets you:
  • Set the automatic archiving idle window (off, or 1–14 days). It applies per project/folder and archives only idle, settled sessions with no running turn; pinned sessions and delegated children are never archived.
  • View archived sessions and Restore or Delete them permanently.
  • Delete all archived sessions.
Archiving is reversible; deleting is not. Undo a mistaken archive here.

Terminal

Set the default shell and the starting directory for new terminals (Worktree / Project / Current file).
  • The default shell can come from detected shells or a custom path.
  • Open terminals do not migrate when you change the preference.
  • Scrollback is fixed at 10,000 lines and is not configurable.

Browser

Controls the embedded browser panel’s own tabs: See Embedded browser.

Computer use

Computer use is off by default. This page lets you:
  • Install and detect the desktop driver.
  • Review operating-system permissions (Accessibility, Screen Recording).
  • Set the approval policy (Allow / Ask / Deny) and whether the Agent may operate Vibex’s own windows.
  • Open the computer-use panel in Window or Floating mode.
  • Set the timeout for one desktop call.
  • See the platform’s capabilities and the experimental Wayland path.

Shortcuts

Every rebindable shortcut, its default, and its group are listed in the shortcut reference. Change one here, or Reset one / Reset all. A conflicting chord is refused with Shortcut is invalid or already in use.

Data & Diagnostics

Shows local storage usage (database, sessions, terminals, attachments, diagnostics, Agent installs) and offers per-category cleanup:
These cleanup actions are destructive and cannot be rolled back. Read Privacy and recovery first.

Developer

  • FPS monitor: show frame rate and repaint information for diagnosing performance.
  • SSH remote runtime: show or hide the SSH / WSL Connections section. VIBEX_SSH_REMOTE_RUNTIME overrides this switch and locks it in the UI.

About

Shows the current version and channel (Preview / ReleaseCandidate / Stable), platform information, and license, plus:
  • Software update: state and actions (Check now / Download update / Install update / Restart now / Open release / Retry). The manifest is signature-verified; a failed check never installs. The card shows the latest version, publication time, and download size, and renders the release notes as Markdown (What’s new in Vibex); with no update it shows the installed version’s notes.
  • Environment summary: copyable, non-sensitive environment information to attach to a report.
  • Source code / Changelog: open the repository and release notes.
When reporting a problem, include the version, channel, platform, and structured error code—not a full log.
